My kind of weekend

The weekend came and went just like that. But today I’m thankful. You see, the hubs had been really busy at work and this week, he was so exhausted by work that he just couldn’t wake up after putting the kids to bed. I know it’s mentally tiring and I hope this period would ease up for him.

As a result, weekends are usually more for catching up on sleep, to recuperate the tired body. The kids needed rest as well from the late night on Friday.

So we were at home on Saturday morning, and engaged in a Science experiment.

I’ve seen this series of Science Fun books at the library for quite some time but because I’m not a Science person, I naturally won’t borrow but these days, they kept popping up before my face I had to borrow.

The kids really enjoyed and I mentally took note of this series of books because I’m going to borrow more of them. In fact, after this experiment, the girl asked me to do more, more!

We did visit the library in the evening after a much needed couple massage. And as you have guessed, I borrowed a few more Science books.

Sunday’s experiment is on the melting of ice.

Salt causes the ice to melt faster.

The rest of Sunday went like this and ended up at Hoshino for dinner. It was a great family day for us, not forgetting an awesome Sunday service in church earlier in the morning.

The food’s good. Hopefully their standard won’t drop!

By the way, this is their current obsession. Board games. I must introduce more!

Friday. TGIF.

So I’m back here again. I think it’s certain that I would write here cos tracking past posts is easier, way easier for me. There are relatively fewer people who read my posts here which makes me… happier. When I started Dayre-ing, I found a small community of moms who are really sincere and genuine. Now, I’m not sure.

Anyway, today is stay-home-day for us. By that I mean, no going out in the morning. So naturally we will catch up on our work. We managed to cover lots- spelling, math, reading, Chinese, NE and even spent some time playing the ukelele.

We don’t spend long on each item, just maybe 10 to 15 minutes? I could do that with F because she is more compliant than the brother. It’s just her character and how she was brought up. We were very strict with her and she knew what was expected of her. However, it’s a different ball game with Dan. She picked up the Richard Scarry book and declared to us all, “Let’s have silent reading!” Of course, the Brother decided otherwise. Did manage to read to the boy though. When it comes to Chinese, it’s going to be difficult for him. After coming back from school, we worked on this. Using the ten frame, it kind of trains the child to calculate mentally. I don’t think F is ready. She could do her calculations using counting forward and backwards or using the fingers and the working method but you ask her to calculate mentally? She can’t. Will try again the next time. No rush. In her time…NE: I shared my Singapore Story with her. How life was like as I was growing up with these cutouts that were printed on the Canon magnetic photo paper. It went very well and the girl told her version of her story and Milo is definitely part of the storyline. Love this idea to show and tell and then she went on to play pretend. Invest in a good printer. Canon is good, I dare say. Bought this book from the Botanic Gardens and I thought this is a great gift for overseas friends. Maybe in June, we shall explore the places introduced in this book. Not that we haven’t gone there before but you know….We spent time playing the ukelele and the girl was so dramatic. I enjoyed the jamming session with her. I really laughed my heads off! And then it’s off to prepare lunch again. Just use rice cooker to do this. Came back home, saw this book on the table and asked to be read to. And then I had to read about three times before I could shoo him off to nap.

The kids and I played a round of Monopoly Junior while waiting for Papa to come back. It was fun. This is simple to understand and I could play with both. We had a good bonding time. Play more, scold less.

We had CG at Trisa’s and she cooked up a storm for us. This pic is just ONE of the food items. There are many awesome home cooks out there and she’s one of them. Happy that she finally came out to share on IG and FB. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 We must celebrate successes together! 😀

We had a reflection kind of session and it was good. I think there was really authentic sharing among all of the CG mates and that is good. Let us encourage one another in this journey!

The brothers….

Led worship yesterday. We have to include some children’s worship songs now because the kids’ population is growing. Good thing.

Weekend thoughts

Dayre seems to be down/ gone/whatever bad things you can think of. Didn’t manage to upload Thursday and Friday but I wanted to keep this picture here.

I’m thankful to the Lord for blessing me with these two kids and a wonderful and supportive husband. At this point in time, I’m truly contented. Haha… life will be perfect if the kids always obey the parents but because they are sinful creatures as well, that is impossible.

I love the preschool age. There’s no stress in terms of academics and because of that, we could just go out and explore. I was thinking if both of them are in Primary School, we would probably be bound by school timing, homework and tests….

I would like to write about my own ideals about education, now as a parent. I remember this as one of the first assignment for the module on Education Philosophy when I was a teacher in training. It’s a fun topic but how different my perspectives are right now as compared to many years back. But of course, times have changed, ever so quickly now, and education has evolved. Things can’t stay the same. They shouldn’t. Only the fundamentals, perhaps.

I’m exploring homeschooling. And the only one thing that is holding me back is Me, Myself and I. Will I be patient enough to teach them since I’m with them 24/7? I know options like getting the kids to learn from enrichment centres will be necessary, especially for areas like Chinese. Homeschooling can be exciting and liberating, yet tiring. Will I be able to do that?

A long day but so great!

Morning read at Macs 🙄

Because it’s Spring and we are at ….

Gardens by the Bay!
I try to make the effort to spend personal time with her. As usual, she talked and talked and I have to consciously remind myself to be patient and answer her properly. Because sometimes I just want to rest my mouth leh…

Btw, @trisaqi this dress is very comfy. F told me she likes the material but as usual, she’s bothered by the label at the back.

We are in ‘Japan’!

So colourful ne!

I look at this, I’m happy.

Our girl was just walking and walking and walking. I told her to observe the cherry blossom but she saw different things from me.

Can’t go Japan to catch the cherry blossom so this is the closest I could get.

So beautiful

😍😍

Drawing what she saw…
Err… better not show.

So yea, we’ve been to Japan! Play pretend….

Going out with her can be fun at times. We can shop together and talk. As long as she doesn’t talk non-stop, I will find it enjoyable. Hahahahha…

My $2 flew away because I wanted to show her how the gears work and well, she wanted the copper penny lah.

So happy with her treasure.

They have Japan fair in the flower dome but everything also must pay!

Learn to fold origami also must pay.. $10!!!!

Something she’s familiar with as we touched on this when we learnt about Japan last year.

In the end, I only had $$ to buy bread. I’d wanted to have a bowl of piping hot ramen but I’ve run out of cash. 😭😭😭😭 can’t accept card!

Hopped over to the Cloud Forest.

She’s not a botany kind of person. I asked her to observe the leaves and flowers, she went to look at the coins in the ‘pond’. Gua gua…

These caught her attention though.

How come so strange one, this flower?

🤔🤔🤔

The lost world…

The hubs and I were discussing the possibility of homeschooling F. We could do a lot more if I homeschool the kids. Lessons would not be confined to the four walls and we would probably go out more often to explore and learn together. I think the most wonderful part of homeschooling for me is to learn together with them, and to learn about my kids in a deeper way.

Alas, I told the hubs that perhaps one factor that deters me from doing so is my lack of patience towards my own kids.

See, on one hand, we can have a lot of time learning and growing together with them and yet on the other hand, facing them daily will cut short my patience and love towards them.

It’s me. It’s me. The problem lies with me.

Anyway, we concluded that we can always pull the kids out of school if we really find that formal school doesn’t suit the girl. I think we shouldn’t face any problem with the application since we both have the relevant qualifications.

And I could just borrow the curriculum from my friend who’s homeschooling her kids and tweak it. I love designing curriculum… no.

Lunch for me and the boy….

The boy. The An Pan kid.

Mary Kay

These few days, been looking at the screen more often because this month’s promotion is getting a bit intense. I’m so afraid I couldn’t get the items when the promotion starts on 9 April. Coincidentally, a few friends have started to ask me about the products and wanted to buy.

A conversation with a friend…

This is my advice for mothers, young mothers. Don’t neglect to take care of yourself. You will feel the difference when you reach 35YO (for me). I don’t care what products you use. Just make sure to use those that help you and start looking after yourself first.

Last night’s convo with a dayremom. Such comments from her really made my day. I couldn’t do a lot but it’s ok. As long as I can reach out to fellow mommies in areas such as this and obviously in other ways, I felt enriched already.

Individual time with the boy…

😍😍😍😍

You want?

Taking every opportunity to teach the kids about the world they are living in. 😅

👩🏻 Why are there so many holes on the leaves?

👦🏻 Because, because, because, one, two, three, four over there..

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Play date and I hope F could sustain! It’s going to be a long day for her.

I think he’s getting the hang of it already.

Dinner because we were famished! I love the mushroom soup here but I think today’s one could be served warmer.

Refuel. Good food. Great company.
I’m thankful to have met like-minded mommy friends and over the internet somemore, the Dayre community, to be precise. I think it makes parenting more bearable when you have people going through the journey with you and that you can have them to rant to and they will understand what you are trying to say.

So thank you @daysofourlives @serina for your friendship!

Nice dinner to end the awesome day.

Morning work. Still not good.

Art lesson continues…

The completed work. I like the product.

Hungry boy…

Delivering goods! Always happy to do that!

Asked to play with this set.

And then wanted to practise cutting.

Can’t concentrate… just entertaining me only..

We revised Time. She only knows time to the hour and half hour, but quite well. I don’t want to teach her more as of now until she’s ready. I’ll try again next time.

Learn together. But actually I only got Dan to tell me where the numerals are.

Finished the two pages very fast. Haiz..

This one, just matches numerals bah..

One-dish meal. Anyhow.

I really ought to juice more. This will make sure they consume greens without their knowing it. Next time, I can put beetroot in and they probably won’t know. 😁😁😁

Yay April! Not sure how this month goes but March has been great. In my weakest and most desperate moments, the Lord reached out and restored me. He knows what’s going through in each and every one of our lives. I want a new start (kinda) and am looking forward to more of Him. Please let me stay focused!

PSA. Hahahahha… if only I’ve space in my kitchen. I would love to have a bigger-sized Dutch oven.

Had the most enjoyable time helping out at Children’s programme today because it’s 4YOs we were dealing with. Nice age. I like!

It’s a bit difficult to decide what to do on Monday. He’s tired but not too tired. But if I’ve lunch, he will be restless. If we don’t jalan jalan, he won’t get tired enough to nap. 🤔🤔🤔

You know, at some point, I thought of homeschooling my kids. Formal schooling can be dreadful. Homeschooling can be liberating but I must say I don’t have the guts to do it.

Yesterday, a relative who homeschooled her girl till Secondary school came over and gave us their homeschooling materials, many of them science stuff. Throughout this year, I’ve been struggling with the thought of homeschooling them but ….

I think if I go for this convention, I will be swayed… hahah…

Registration is closed. 😅😅😅

Impromptu lesson on pyramid.

Snack time!

Their papa had been to that part of the world and took pics so I showed them the pics. 😅 They.. are not fascinated.

Papa’s pop-up book…

Watch video..
someone gave this to us. So apt.

Creating a pyramid from play doh. I still prefer TYS play doh.

Finished dinner today. No struggles. Yay!

My current to go to serum and the golden beauty bar. Comes with this month’s promotion. Grab cos after this, no more le.

The promotional set…

Tonight’s scene.
Thankful. Both are engaged in their own thing.

It’s Resurrection Sunday! If the Lord had not risen, our faith is futile. It’s not fiction, it’s true! It’s recorded that many had witnessed His resurrection!

‘Because He lives, I can face tomorrow. Because He lives, all fear is gone!’

My view. Morning jog. Before the sun rays get merciless. 😅

The kids woke up before 6am which really irritates the parents. But that gives me enough time to do a relatively longer but slower run. Haha..

#unfiltered

5km run

Came back to this sight. F is teaching as usual, and the boy? Imitating her…

#ootd for the girl. What Trisa has helped me buy. 😊

With Easter egg in her hands. She’s only interested in eating it.

Dan’s #ootd. Reversible wear. Maison Q.
Eh, @trisaqi can help to source for boy’s clothing or not ah? 😬😬😬😬😬

It’s April. That means I need to update Mary Kay promotion! This month’s one is quite good! This massage tool for face is 👍🏼👍🏼 but you have to be conscientious in using it lah, as with all things.

Info…

This is free with this TimeWise bundle. Bundle includes the firming eye cream, ultimate serum (which I’m currently using and really helps in brightening my dull face), TimeWise cleanser, toner and moisturiser.

It’s a good buy ah! In all honesty.

This one also not bad… but I don’t think many of us have this problem already. 😅

Oh those smiles!
Delivering goodies to the in-laws.

七早八早。。。 Faith’s love for colouring and drawing has infected Dan.

In her free time, she would choose to draw. I think I can safely assume that this is her interest for now. Not reading, not playing musical instruments, but more of drawing and being a drama queen.

Morning exercise.

The ramp for scooters and skateboarders. I really should go back to sports. I think I should just go back to inline skating. Oh those carefree life…

He’s so cute at this age. I think this is the best age. He understands what you are trying to say, can articulate his thoughts, will reason with you and yet will obey you without much resistance.

Im enjoying him so much more now.

Then it’s off to some water fun! I think the kids enjoyed themselves. Dan was just contented with playing in that corner. He could stay there the entire time!! What’s so attractive?

Happy child…

My bowl of laksa. Indulgence. Once in a while, never mind lah

The morning exercise is quite something. All KO now. Time for a short read!

@his_belovedchild this is the book I’m reading. Speaks so much to me at this point in time.

When you have too many fruits in your fridge…

Sneak in some greens!

I think I should go back to juicing. I just need to convince myself to be more hardworking.

Reading this book again…

@loulou he’s reading this book.

F, don’t steal!

So happy here. Don’t know why…

A bit on the salty side. 😕

Simple pleasures in life.
We didn’t have the right coin to purchase the feed. F was so disappointed and then suggested that we picked the remnants that were left by others. So we did and she had s decent time feeding the fish. At least, she’s thinking of solutions. But most of the time, she’s not thinking. She just blurted out her thoughts whether or not it’s appropriate or timely. Many of them are nonsense by the way. Is it because her awareness is very low? 🤔🤔🤔

I don’t like to use rewards. I know young children like that. But I much prefer my kids or the kids I teach to have intrinsic motivation rather than extrinsic ones. This, is perhaps one of the very few things that I need to use rewards to get her to practise her ukulele. The hubs said she’s simply not interested so it’s difficult to get her to want to practise on her own. So during one conversation with the girl, she told me she really wanted a lipstick eraser very much and suggested that

if she practised real hard, I could buy that eraser for her?

Sounds good to me lah. But it has to be on MY condition which is to perform in June. Muahahahha.

So today, it’s easy for her to get her to practise and she even volunteered to practise more.

Sometimes extrinsic motivation is good lah. Just don’t overdo it. 🤣🤣🤣

Ok, my friend @trisaqi finally moved her butt and started writing on Dayre. Yay! You can get to know her more from her blog. I personally think she’s a very great cook and a buyer but such talents are hidden because she doesn’t blog (only on WeChat). Finally, she’s out of her shell! Yay! I hope she will share more about her cooking. Hahah..

Went for a parenting talk on Raising kids in a digital world and about bullying. Lucian from Google was sharing with us some preventive measures we could take when we introduced technology and phones to our kids. Some good pointers.

At the end of the day, relationship still matters. So let’s continue to build solid relationships with our kids.

The seminar doesn’t have programmes for under 3 so Didi had to be taken care by grandpa and aunt…

Big boy now…

So we borrowed the Dyson V8 from a relative and immediately set to work. Wah… the amount of dust!

This boy is slowly getting the hang of it. I must make time for more exercise now!

Probably cannot see well from this pic but this is Dan, working on practical life. Saw him working on his own, packing and returning the tray to the designated place before taking another tray of stuff to work on.

So adorable. I’m biased, I know.

SAHMs’ meeting this morning and Trisa hosted us and cooked zhajiangmian for us.

I couldn’t wait any longer and asked to tuck in the food. 😆

Collected the Set 2 books and then I regretted not buying Set 1 books. Hahahha…
Set 1 books are not bad!

Good Friday art by the school.

The girl learnt about tornado 🌪 in school and I read this to her. Initially she just wanted to play with the Brother but after I read one book, she asked to read another, another.

I regret. 😅😅

And I nearly burnt my soup. Cos I forgot about it when I was reading to them!

I declare that this series is good!

Simple dish but always a winner. Fewer dishes to wash too..

Ok, for those of you who want to get this series of book, I think there is hope. Lol… Trisa has always wanted to do some sort of group buy thing (share shipping cost) cos she likes to #buybuybuy. I don’t know why she can never finish buying.😅 Anyway, this shopping spree sparked off her interest again and she said she would like to help people buy. So if you are interested to buy this set(s), can go to Instagram and follow bunnytao.

She will post things she would like to recommend and then anyone can join in the group buy. I think you can trust her to bargain for a good price because she is an auntie, she likes to do such things. Hahahahhaha🤣🤣🤣 (Trisa, don’t humtum me!)

Anyway, she likes to buy girls’ clothing and she sources for good quality ones. You should see the dresses that she bought for her daughters! She just helped me buy some for F and I like the quality much. And soooo cheap!

Trisa’s email address is trisaqi1981@gmail.com in case anyone is interested to buy the set(s). Give this SAHM some work to do bah…

今天的功课今天做完。
Must inculcate this from young. Really.

It’s Duplo night. They built Great Wall of China (not in pic). I love construction sorta toys. Remember to keep LEGO for the next generation. I have a box of LEGO which is from my time. Now, my kids are playing with them.
